ALFRETON TOWN 3, HARROGATE TOWN 1
ALFRETON Town made it six games in a row without defeat as they comfortably beat relegation-fighting Harrogate Town 3-1 at the Impact Arena on Saturday.
The Reds produced some sparkling pass-and-move football at times as they moved back into the play-off places.
Anton Brown steered Alfreton ahead from ten yards with a shot across Harrogate keeper Aaron Ratchford on eight minutes after he had been sent clear by Liam Hearn.
Paul Clayton doubled the lead on 35 with a 15-yard low shot past Ratchford after Anton Brown had put him clear inside the penalty area.
The third goal came on 53, man of the match Jake Moult beating Ratchford on his near post to notch his first goal for the club as he put the finishing touches to a terrific passing move from the Reds.
Harrogate reduced the arrears on 62 minutes when substitute Adam Nowakowsky netted a header in-off the bar to finish a free kick.
The visitors finished the game with ten men when Martin Foster was red carded for a stamping offence on Paul Clayton a minute from time.
The Reds are next in action on Saturday, February 13, when they visit Northwich Victoria. Supporters’ Association transport departs at 10.15am and seats can be booked via Mark Thorpe on 01773 836251.

REDS ON COURSE
ALFRETON Town climbed back into the play-off places after last Saturday’s 2-1 victory in deepest Gloucestershire.
Nicky Law’s side have played more games than the majority of the chasing pack but the statistics are solidly confirming the Reds’ chances.
With 25 games played, Alfreton are just one point behind last season’s total of 41 at the same stage of events.
However, the Reds are up on wins with 11 compared to ten last season and have scored 47 compared to 46 in 2008/09 and conceded two goals fewer, 32 compared with 34 last January.
Last season’s run had already begun with a 5-0 demolition of Hucknall Town at the Impact Arena on Boxing Day after which Law’s side went on to lose just two games in the last 23 league outings.
This season, Alfreton are currently on a five-game unbeaten run in Blue Square North, and have 17 games left, so the comparisons are there to be drawn.
This Saturday, Alfreton will be looking to extend that run when they host second-from-bottom Harrogate Town at the Impact Arena.
The Reds have already won 4-0 in North Yorkshire in mid-October and would appear to have a great chance of recording a second league double of the season.
In the same fixture last season, Alfreton recorded a 4-1 home win but Law will no doubt accept three points from a lesser scoreline as his side look to recapture the free-flowing form of a year ago which took them all the way to the play-off semi-finals.
After three succcessive draws, Alfreton rediscovered their character as they hit back from going a goal down to record a 2-1 win from their first ever game against Gloucester City last Saturday.
There is most certainly everything to play for and with plenty of competition for places throughout the squad, Law will be looking for his side to kick on and make the most of another very good opportunity to progress.
There is no midweek game next week with the next fixture a tough test at Northwich Victoria a week on Saturday.
The scheduled midweek reserve game at the Impact Arena between Derby County and Sheffield United on Wednesday was postponed due to a frozen pitch following a pitch inspection.
No new date has been arranged yet.

Alfreton Town climbed back into the play-off places as they came from behind to record a 2-1 victory in a first ever game against Gloucester City. The win extended the Reds' unbeaten run to five league games.
Gloucester took the lead on 64 minutes through a close range effort from Mark Richards but two goals in three minutes swung the points to Alfreton as an Anthony Howell penalty success on 70 was added to by Paul Clayton on 73. Attendance 310.

GLOUCESTER CITY v ALFRETON TOWN, Saturday, January 30th
ALFRETON Town make their longest Blue Square North trip south of the season on Saturday to face Gloucester City for the first time ever in any competition.
City actually play their home games at the Corinium Stadium headquarters of Cirencester Town some 20 miles further down the road.
The Reds make the the 254-mile round trip journey in the knowledge that they will be seeking a first win on their travels in eight games in all competitions.
However, Nicky Law’s side are unbeaten in four league games and should travel with confidence having put in a tremendous second-half display against Eastwood Town in midweek.
Law has no injury or suspension worries and will be able to pick from a full-strength squad.
Gloucester have lost their last two league games and have only won once in the last six.
City are currently in 16th place, six points above the relegation zone and 13 points behind sixth-placed Alfreton who will be aiming for a fourth away win of the campaign.
Gloucester’s home form has been somewhat hit and miss with four wins, no draws and eight defeats on their own turf.
The wins have come against Redditch United (2-0), Gainsborough Trinity (1-0), Hyde United (2-0) and Blyth Spartans (3-1).
Defeat was suffered by the Tigers in their last home outing against Hinckley United who triumphed 5-3. City have also gone down at the Corinium to Northwich Victoria (1-0), Fleetwood Town (1-2), Workington (2-0), AFC Telford United (1-0), Droylsden (4-1), Farsley Celtic (0-3) and Eastwood Town (3-1).
A win for Gloucester could cement them further into a fairly comfortable mid-table position while a victory for the Reds could see them back in the play-off places should Droylsden fail to win at Ilkeston Town.
To do so though, Alfreton will have to improve on a poor run of away form which as brought just three points from the last 15 available.
Top scorers in the league for Gloucester are Lee Smith with nine and Mike Symons with five.
LAW POSITIVE OVER PLAY-OFF CHANCES
ALFRETON Town go in search of a first away win in eight games in all competitions when they travel to Gloucester City in Blue Square North on Saturday.
The Reds are unbeaten in their last four league games and have drawn their last three with the same 1-1 scoreline, as a result of which they are still sixth in the table, on the fringes of the play-off places.
However, with 18 games to go, Nicky Law’s side are going to need a total of around 75 to 76 points to be all but certain of being in the play-offs for the second year in succession.
And with 37 points from 24 games so far, that means the Reds will need more than an average of two points per game from the remaining league matches.
However, manager Law is remaining positive that his side will be in the mix at the end of the season.
He said: “It was disappointing not to pick up all six points from the games at Solihull and Vauxhall. We should have done, but didn’t. You can’t dwell on that though, you have just got to get on with it.
“We have now got to go and win as many games as we can to get those points on the table as soon as possible.
“It was a very good, positive performance against Eastwood.
“The only thing that was missing was the win. They were a big, strong side, we ground them down and played some good football and mixed our game up well.
“All we were lacking was the extra goal to get us in front. I thought we were the better team, and certainly finished the strongest.
“We have now got to take this level of performance on, because if we play like we did against Eastwood, we will definitely win more than we lose this season that is for sure.
“We know what the end target is for us, and we have just got to keep going and going.”
The game saw Liam Hearn on target for the third game in a row as he took his tally to 15 goals for the season and Law had praise for his highly rated striker.
He said: “His goals rate at the moment is phenomenal.”
Law also had praise for his son Josh who is growing in stature since being moved to right back.
“He has settled into a position he is comfortable in and it is really pleasing to see him doing so well.”
Loan extended
Mattie Burke has had his loan spell with Hyde United extended to February 20.
Goalkeeper Lawrence Matthewson has joined UniBond First Division South neighbours Belper Town on a dual registration.

ALFRETON TOWN 1, EASTWOOD TOWN 1
ALFRETON Town were held to a 1-1 draw for the third game in a row as they shared the spoils in a good, competitive local derby with Eastwood on Tuesday night.
It was a first home game in any competition since December 12.
The Badgers took a 22nd minute lead with a route one effort. A long kick from keeper Jan Budtz ended with Lindon Meikle evading a challenge from Chris Shaw to slot home low from 12 yards.
The Reds dominated the second half but could only break through once, Liam Hearn diverting Jake Moult's 25 yard shot past Budtz for his 15th goal of the season.

ALFRETON TOWN v EASTWOOD TOWN, Tuesday, January 26th
ALFRETON Town will be looking to extend their three-game Blue Square North unbeaten run when they host local derby rivals Eastwood Town on Tuesday night.
Reds manager Nicky Law has a full strength squad to choose from as he welcomes central defender Aden Flint after a four-match suspension.
Under manager Paul Cox, Eastwood have made a tremendous start to their first season in Blue Square North and they are firmly entrenched in the play-off places as they occupy third place in the table.
Alfreton will be aiming to avoid conceding an unwanted league double having gone down to a narrow 2-1 defeat at Coronation Park way back in August, more importantly, the Reds need a first win in three league outings to keep them firmly in touch with the teams already in the play-off spots.
The Badgers have won five, drawn two and lost five of 12 away games so far with 17 of their total of 43 points gained so far coming away from home.
Victories have been recorded at Redditch Unied (2-1), Blyth Sparans (3-1), Gainsborough Trinity (4-1), Harrogate Town (1-0) and Gloucester City (3-1). The draws were at Corby Town (1-1) and Stafford Rangers (3-3).
Defeats on the road for points have come at Northwich Victoria (4-3), Workington (1-0), Southport (5-1), Vauxhall Motors (3-2) and Fleetwood Town (3-1).
Top scorers in the league for Eastwood so far are Danny Holland with eight and Lindon Meikle with seven.

O'NEILL: "WE MUST BE MORE RUTHLESS"
A POINT from an away game in your first outing for over five weeks should be considered decent reward.
Not so for Alfreton Town though. The Reds found themselves hugely disappointed at having to share the spoils from Tuesday night’s Blue Square North trip to Solihull Moors when the hosts equalised in the third minute of stoppage time at the end of the second half.
Assistant manager Russ O’Neill was a very frustrated man after the game.
He reflected: “We are massively frustrated because it is a definite case of two points dropped.
“Considering the long lay-off, we were excellent in the first half and carved out four or five very good chances. The game should have been dead and buried.
“We had a stone wall penalty denied when Anthony Howell was brought down in the second half but, after creating and not taking further chances, you are always susceptible to a counter and that’s what happened in the end.
“To be totally honest, we tended to go too long, too early in the second half with the wind behind us.
“At the end of the day though we have got to be far more ruthless at both ends of the pitch. And it’s not just the taking of chances, we need clean sheets as well, we needed to get the ball away from our end of the pitch and paid the price for not doing so.
“We have got to be aiming for an average of two points a game to the end of the season to have any chance of finishing in the play-offs.
“We have now got to pick ourselves up and go to Vauxhall Motors this Saturday and get something there.
“We have told the players that the season starts again now. Everybody gets carried away with looking at the league table up to Christmas, but that counts for nothing. We have got all the hard work to do between now and the end of the season.”
The Solihull game saw debuts for two players with former Eastwood Town Chris Shaw finally making his bow at left back
O’Neill ended: “Both boys did really well. Shawy has got a very good left foot and he gave us some good aggression and balance on that side of the pitch.
“Jake Moult put in a really good performance on his debut and, despite being booked very harshly early on, he didn’t let it bother him. He is a very good prospect.”
Moult was only signed on Monday of this week from Blue Square North rivals Stafford Rangers and at just 20, he has plenty of time to develop.
Also signing on Monday was right-sided midfield player Jack Muldoon from Glapwell. He had to be content with a place on the bench on Tuesday night.
The Reds travel to bottom of the table Vauxhall Motors on Saturday but will need no reminding that Rivacre Park has not been a happy hunting ground down the years.
Next Tuesday brings local derby rivals Eastwood Town to the Impact Arena.
Segregation will not be used for this fixture which kicks-off at 7.45pm.
The Reds will have revenge on their minds after suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat at Coronation Park way back on August 18 in front of 882.
It will be a first home game for Alfreton since December 12 and it is to be hoped a similar attendance turn out for what looks to be a cracking game in prospect.
Alfreton Town FC Supporters’ Association transport to Vauxhall Motors departs at 9.45am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 01773 836251.

SOLIHULL MOORS 1, ALFRETON TOWN 1
A goal from Solihull Moors defender Indy Khela in the third minute of injury time at the end of the second half deprived Alfreton Town of all three points on Tuesday night.
In their first run out in over five weeks and in front of just 161, the Reds took a 24th minute led courtesy of Liam Hearn and looked comfortable enough throughout until the home side equalised against the run of play to snatch a point. Debutant Jake Moult was the Reds man of the match. Report to follow.
The Reds are next in action on Saturday when they visit Vauxhall Motors in Blue Square North.

TWO NEW SIGNINGS IN TIME FOR SOLIHULL MOORS GAME
ALFRETON Town manager Nicky Law has strengthened his squad with two signings in time for Tuesday's Blue Square North trip to Solihull Moors.
Law has signed central midfield player Jake Moult from league rivals Stafford Rangers and right-sided midfield player Jack Muldoon from UniBond First Division South club Glapwell.
Moult, 20, (pictured right in Stafford Rangers colours courtesy of the official Rangers website) began his career with Port Vale before moving on to Plymouth Argyle and then spending the back end of the 2007/08 campaign at Kidderminster Harriers. Leek Town became his next port of call before joining Rangers.
An athletic, busy and mobile player, Jake covers lots of ground and gets in the opposing penalty area.
Muldoon, 20, (pictured left courtesy of Glapwell FC's official website) is a former Scunthorpe United junior who is comfortable either in an advanced striking role or in midfield. After a six-month spell with Doncaster Rovers reserves side he moved to Brigg Town, moved to Glapwell from Sheffield FC.
A very quick player, he is strongly built as well and has an eye for goal which will give the Reds more options.
Both players will go straight into Alfreton's squad for the trip to Solihull.
Left back Chris Shaw is set to finally make his debut having signed before the original game at Solihull on December 19 which was postponed.
Having had their last six games in a row postponed, the Reds will be hoping to taste league action for the first time in 38 days and a win can lift them back into the play-off places.
Nicky Law's side can achieve a second league double of the campaign with a win in the West Midlands, but relegation-fighting Moors will be keen to erase the memory of a 3-0 defeat in Derbyshire in the second game of the season.
Law has a full strength squad to choose from with the exception of central defender Aden Flint who, thanks to the frost and snow, is still to serve two of a four-game suspension. Kick-off at Damson Park is 7.45pm.
NEW DATE FOR WORKINGTON GAME
Alfreton Town's Blue Square North home game against Workington AFC has been rearranged for Tuesday, February 16 with a 7.45pm kick-off. The fixture was postponed last weekend due to a frozen Impact Area pitch.
RIP GEORGE WAUDBY
Taken from the Alfreton Town FC Forum, a posting by Jeff Lineker:
"A sad posting to inform you that George Waudby passed away last Thursday.
George was a loyal Alfreton fan who worked with his wife Jackie in the Alma Street snack bar.
He also spent many years with Alfreton Town Juniors helping with the general running of the club and in particular with Shaun's team. He will be sadly missed.
My condolences go out to Jackie, and the rest of the family."
Condolences to all of George's family from everyone connected with Alfreton Town Football Club. He will very definitely be sadly missed. Rest in peace George.

HALL OUT ON LOAN
Jordan Hall has gone out on loan to UniBond League First Division South neighbours Belper Town until February 20.
REDS CLOSING IN ON TWO PLAYER TARGETS
ALFRETON Town assistant manager Russ O’Neill confirmed this week that the club are closing in on two player targets.
With a return to action hopefully now not too far away, the Reds management know they are going to need more numbers adding to the squad which will be faced with 21 league games over the remainder of the season.
There are just 15 Saturday’s left beginning with this weekend and with the possibility of more postponements to come yet, that means every club in the division is going to be faced with a rash of games in short time periods.
Midfielder Steve Istead returned to Mansfield Town last Sunday following the completion of his month’s loan spell from their Blue Square Premier Division neighbours which leaves the Reds down on numbers in that department.
O’Neill said: “We are close to bringing in a midfield player from a rival Blue Square North club and we have also put in seven days’ notice of approach for a left-sided player.
“If we can land this additional target as well, it will increase our options greatly as the lad we are after can also play up front as well as wide left.”
Last Saturday’s postponed game at league leaders Southport was a fifth fixture in a row Alfreton have had cancelled due to the continuing wintry blasts.
The Reds are scheduled to face Workington at home this Saturday and it is to be hoped the slightly higher temperatures which have come in at the front of the week continue through to give this fixture a chance.
If it goes ahead, it will be a first league outing and first home game since December 12, a hugely taxing spell of five weeks without income.
Next Tuesday (Jan 19) Alfreton are set to visit Solihull Moors before they go to Vauxhall Motors on Saturday, January 23.
Eastwood Town are local derby visitors to the Impact Arena on Tuesday, January 26 before the month closes with a trip to Gloucester City on Saturday, 30.
The Southport game has been rearranged for Tuesday, March 2, with a 7.45pm kick-off.
The placement of that fixture means the Reds will face four games in 11 days in early March.
The squad has managed to continue training and the Reds were very thankful for being able to use Sheffield United FC’s Academy set-up last Saturday and on Tuesday evening.
Transport
ATFC Supporters’ Association transport to Solihull will depart at 5.15pm and there is a 9.45am departure time for the Vauxhall Motors game. Seats for both games can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 01773 836251.

Meanwhile, Alfreton Town's Blue Square North away game at Southport has been rearranged for Tuesday, March 2, with a 7.45pm kick-off. The fixture was postponed last Saturday.
