Alfreton Town notched up their second 3-0 victory in the opening two games of the new Blue Square North season when Solihull Moors were duly despatched on Tuesday night at the Impact Arena.
Liam Hearn weighed in with a brace of goals while Anton Brown added the third, but the visitors put up some dogged resistance and with ten minutes of the contest remaining there was still only one goal separating the teams.
Moors will have felt unfortunate that Theo Street's powerful header from a 35th minute corner was thwarted only by the crossbar, the same player having missed an absolute sitter 18 minutes earlier by ballooning over the bar from three yards from a delivery by Junior English.
However, Ian Ross had already been denied by the upright from a sixth minute free-kick, and three minutes later Matt Wilson fired against the Solihull bar after Richard Pell's header from a Ross corner had been cleared off the line.
An awful mistake by Indy Khela let Paul Clayton in on 24 minutes but last season's top scorer ran straight at keeper Danny Crane, then on the half-hour mark Clayton's brave diving header just failed to connect with a Josh Law cross.
Craig Dootson had to make a desperate double save four minutes prior to the interval, first of all stretching to claw the ball away one-handed as Junior Brown attempted a deep lob then hacking clear as Matty Lewis followed up.
Alfreton were very quickly into stride as the second half commenced and led by the 47th minute when Hearn chipped the keeper from 15 yards after being played through exquisitely by Clayton.
Moments later Anthony Howell was just off target from Hearn's set-up, then a Hearn cross from the by-line again saw Clayton fail to connect in a prime position.
With 56 minutes elapsed Clayton again missed as Brown fired hard and low across the face of goal and the game slipped into a quiet spell as Alfreton nursed their advantage and Solihull were frustrated by their own inadequate attempts to push forward.
With 76 minutes gone Pell sent Hearn through and from 20 yards he rolled the ball past Crane, but could only watch as it trundled inches beyond the far post, then seconds later Hearn teed up Howell whose shot was blocked at the second attempt by Crane. The second goal duly arrived with nine minutes left, Hearn hammering home from 15 yards after Howell had laid off a Dootson clearance, then with three minutes to go Andy Todd and Hearn combined on the left before Brown drilled the ball past Crane from near the penalty mark.
